As I write this, I am sitting in the Hyatt Regency in Dallas.  I’M AT CONFERENCE!!!  And it is so completely amazing!  If you were not one of the fortunate 1,334 precious women of God who were blessed to attend conference, then please allow me to share a little bit with you.  God is awesome!  God is great!  He alone is worthy of our praise!  And He has a plan for YOUR life!

I came to conference especially anxious to hear God speak to me because I’m in a season of discouragement right now.  I want to give up.  Everywhere I turn, there are hard things.  Our speaker, Priscilla Shirer, spoke last night and expounded on Genesis 28:10-17.  (You should probably stop and read that now!)  She explained that like Jacob, sometimes when we get to the hard places in life, we are tempted to look at the stones around us and just go to sleep.  That is truly what I have wanted to do.  I have been tempted to sleep walk through this season of my life; to be physically present but mentally and emotionally “checked out.”  Have you ever done that?

As Priscilla spoke last night, she explained that “there’s good stuff in the hard stuff.”  She explained that in the Hebrew text, “certain places” are sacred places.  They are places that God has been before.  And they are places where we grow the most.  They are the places that God brings us to so that we can become more like Him.  “Certain places” are the places where we receive the biggest blessings.  When she stated that, it was like a fog lifted.  This entire conference has been such an encouragement to my weary self.

If, like me, you are in a hard place, a place where you would just like to move on to the next thing, can I encourage you to STOP!  Don’t miss the blessing!  God has brought you to this place, at this time, for this season – for HIS purposes.  You are a one of a kind masterpiece and He is working on you!  God has a purpose for whatever it is that you are going through.  I know it is difficult now, but as James said in James 1: 2-4 “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.  But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.”  I know that I want to “lack nothing.”  How about you?

“Who are you?” — I find myself typing this a lot lately.

Remember a thousand years ago when the Internet was introduced? Shortly thereafter came Email? Back then, we were all ignorant about cyber-safety. We created usernames like Pookey, ArmyMom and CatLady. One of my earlier email addresses was BeagleMomOf2. I had two beagles so it seemed to fit. To use our real name wasn’t a consideration then.

Fast forward those thousand years and we know a lot more about the threats, both real and perceived, that haunt our online presence. We’ve finally learned that using our real name for our email address isn’t really a threat after all…or have we?

So often, I still see generic usernames on email messages but that in itself isn’t the problem. The problem is introduced when the sender of the message fails to sign it and the reader is left with the question, “Who are you?” Furthermore, failing to sign your message is a fast track to the Junk bin! If you want to be taken seriously, identify yourself.

Personally, I strongly prefer using your real name for your email address. The army does it and if you haven’t noticed, they don’t do anything that could be considered unsafe (on the web, that is).  But if that’s still too risky for your comfort level, then please, oh please, begin using a Signature Block telling your reader who you are. If you’ve sent them a message, then you must want them to know who you are, right?

Don’t know what a Signature Block is? In every email system, whether you use an online webmail (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.) or an Email Client (Outlook, Apple Mail, etc.), you have a feature that allows you to include a block of text at the end of every message you write…automatically. Moving forward, every message you write will automatically add this information to the bottom of the message and your reader will never again have to ask, “Who are you?”

Before setting up your Signature block, consider these two points I mentioned in my May 26, 2009 Tech Tuesday entry:

Keep Your Signature to 5 Lines of Text
“Signature” is a synonym for brief and unobtrusive — or at least it should be, because overly long signatures in emails are an annoyance.

No Need for Street Addresses in Email Signatures
Come visit me, everybody! Unless you want everybody and the whole world to know where you live, don’t include your street address in your email signature.

I was reminded anew of something about our God this week. Not only does our God love us. Not only did our God die to save us and give us freedom. Not only does His Holy Spirit live inside of us as believers. Not only do we have 24/7 access to the King of kings throne room. Not only are we adopted into His family and made co-heirs to God’s inheritance. Not only does He listen and act on our behalf. But, He also DELIGHTS in EVERY DETAIL of our lives. Let me say it again, God delights in EVERY DETAIL of my life and your life. Those words of Psalm 37:23 fell on me like cool rain on a hot summer day. The truth that God delights in every detail of our lives tells me a few things.

1. There are no surprises to God in our details. God KNOWS the details. All the details. Every detail. He knows them all so He isn’t surprised by the details of our lives.

2. God knows us better than we know ourselves. I forget details of my life all the time and God knows EVERY detail of everybody’s lives.

3. We are important to God. He cares about us enough to know all our stuff, all our day to day details. I know the day to day details of the people who are the most important to me. Whose details do you know?

4. God knows the details of the details. He knows the soccer and school schedules. Our God knows about all the meal plans and meetings. He knows what the traffic is like. He knows all about all our health and our household. He knows about the deployment details. He knows about the reunion details. God knows.

Psalm 37:23 takes it further though by telling us that God delights in those details. I think He delights in knowing each of us so well. I think He delights in the planning and provision of all those details for all those lives. I know that I take delight in planning things out and providing for every detail of everything from birthday parties to my husband’s homecomings. How much more than does God delight in doing the same things for us only on a much grander scale?

God delights in you. He delights in the details of your life. He delights in you or He would not be delighted in knowing your details. Let that thought saturate your soul. Our God, who knows everything, delights in you. Take this promise and run with it, girls. Your God delights in you!
