When I read my Bible, I am always curious about how people introduced their prayer to God and what did they say specifically….oh, yes, we know we can just ‘talk’ to God, and yes, that is what an intimate relationship with Christ is all about….let’s look at the psalmist in the following:
May my cry come before you, O Lord; give me understanding according to your Word.
May my supplication come before you; deliver me according to your promise.
May my lips overflow with praise, for you teach me your decrees.
May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous.
May your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts.
I long for your salvation, O Lord, and your law is my delight.
Let me live that I may praise you, and may your laws sustain me. (Psalm 119:169-175)
There is a wonderful rhythm to this psalm:
May my cry come before you….well, that’s my complaint. My supplication is what I ask for…and I will receive ‘deliverance’.
Praise and worship are intertwined in all the psalms…Let us never forget to Praise God in our prayer.
May my tongue sing of your word…we are told to sing Scripture from our heart.
We ask God to be ready to help us….Amazing. I have never asked God to BE READY to help me!
O Lord, yes, let us live to praise you and help us to delight in your Word, your laws to sustain us. Amen.
