Welcome back, Techies! It’s been a loooong and restful break but I’m ready to get back to work. This week we’ll discuss transferring files for use at the Chapel or in your Chaplain’s office.
The DoD (Department of Defense) recently passed a ruling barring USB storage devices citing them as a security risk. Therefore, you can no longer use your Thumb Drive or Memory Stick in any official military computer. When transferring files for use on a military computer, you now have two options:
- Burn your file to a CD. This is the easiest method assuming you have both a blank CD and a CD burner.
- Upload your file to DKO (Defense Knowledge Online). Every DKO user is allotted online file storage which is accessible from any official computer. If DKO allowed you to upload the file, it has been deemed safe and ready to access.
Force protection is and should be a priority issue for all of us as we want to keep our service members safe. With just a bit of forethought, accessing files from the Chapel should be no problem at all!
Moving on, I need your help!
I am hoping to collect digital embroidery files from the various regional and local groups that have purchased them. If your group has had anything created where the PWOC logo or theme artwork was embroidered, or stitched, you almost certainly paid a setup fee to have such a file created from artwork you submitted to the vendor. As we assume this process has been duplicated countless times around the globe, we’d like to collect these files and make them available to the entire PWOC body.
If your group has paid this fee and would be willing to share the file with us, please send it to me at WebManager[at]pwoc[dot]org. If available, it would also be helpful to have an image file (jpg/jpeg) of the embroidery, as well. If you paid the fee but never received the file from the vendor, simply contact them and request it. Most vendors are happy to supply it since, after all, you paid for it!
Once collected, my hope is to make these files available through the pwoc.org website. If you have any questions or need help with this request, please let me know.
